Most customers say Cequent? Never
heard of them! Well I bet you have. Cequent is the company
that owns Draw-Tite,
Reese, Hidden Hitch, Tow Ready & Tekonsha which together make up the
worlds largest manufacturer of towing products so chances are you have
heard of them and already have at least one of their products on your
truck.
Now Cequent offers a under bed gooseneck
hitch comparable to the one sold by B&W but for a much better price. It
basically installs the same way and has the same 30,000 GTW / 7500
vertical load limit. A lever in the driver side wheel well
releases the ball so it can be flipped over giving you a level bed just
like on the Turnover Ball. It has a round shank instead of square and
comes with a magnet to cover the hole when not in use. It uses a
3.5" hole instead of a 4" and is painted black to match your frame instead of grey. It installs in about two hours with no drilling
welding or cutting of the frame required. Each kit ships out in
two boxes and includes one pair of crossbars, side mounting plates for
both sides, under bed center head plate, 2 5/16" 30K gooseneck ball, one
pair of spring loaded safety chain hooks, and all the mounting hardware
needed for installation.

The most common question we get about gooseneck hitches
is how hard are they to install. This is not a simple question to
answer because we do not know your skill level but these hitches are
premade to fit your truck and install with no modification using simple
hand tools. Here is a list of tools you will probably need.
If you are the type of person that owns these tools you shouldn't have
any problem installing this hitch by yourself in a couple hours.
- 1/2" drive drill
- 3.5" hole saw (can be picked up at almost any
hardware store)
- various drill bits for installing the safety
chain hooks (we use a step bit)
- a few popular sizes of open end wrenches and or
ratchet with sockets (impact wrench will speed things up)
- its not required but a floor jack and one pair of
jack stands will definitely make things easier
To give you a better idea of what's involved here is a
step by step guide with pictures of a typical gooseneck hitch install.
This is a Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose being installed on a well used 2006
Dodge Ram 2500 long bed truck. We are installing it on the ground
without a lift to best simulate the same conditions you will be facing
in your driveway. Shops typically charge you for 3 hours of labor
to do this install at $50 per hour (that's $150). We installed
this hitch in 1 hour 20 minutes and were going slow to photograph each
step. |
