Nerf Bar 101
Nerf Bar is a tubular product that is
mounted to the side of a truck, SUV, or crossover that is designed to do two
things 1) protect the body and 2) help passengers enter / exit the vehicle.
They come in vehicle specific kits with a bar for each side and all
the brackets / mounting hardware needed for installation. Traditional they are
made of 3" round tubing but now can also be found in 4" round, 4" oval, and 4.5"
plank style steps. They are available from a variety of manufactures and in
several finishes (like polished stainless steel, chrome, and black powder coat).
Got-Chrome.com has been selling nerf bars
for well over 15 years and has used that experience to narrow our selection down
to what we believe to be the three best brands available.
Brand 1:
Westin Automotive is probably the most recognized brand name of nerf bars
sold today. That is because they have been around since the beginning and
currently offer the largest selection of custom fit no drill nerf bar kits of
any brand. They make traditional 3" round nerf bars three ways 1) Signature
Series (made of mild steel that has been chrome plated or powder coated
black) 2) Platinum Series (made of 304 stainless steel that has been
chrome plated or powder coated black), and 3) E Series (polished 304
stainless steel or black powder coated mild steel) and now they also offer a 4"
oval nerf bar called "Platinum Oval".
Brand 2:
Nasta International doesn't offer as many applications as Westin but they
build the only all 304 stainless steel nerf bar kit available today. When I say
all stainless I mean everything including the brackets bolts and washers. They
may cost a little more but are designed well and built out of the best materials
available. You get what you pay for!
Brand 3:
Trail FX is our best seller. It is a private label imported nerf bar kit
that is basically a copy of the Westin E Series kit and is available at an outstanding
price. They are available for most newer body style pickup trucks and a few
SUV's. These bars are designed well, built out of great materials, and are
packaged well so we have very little trouble with damage during shipment.
We are proud to say that in
over 4 years of selling this line we have never seen a Trail FX kit that was missing parts or
had the wrong parts inside the box (We can't say that about many of the brands we
sell).
